"LONSDALE"
This is my very first mask done in late 1996
Based on a mask collected by the Earl of Lonsdale on a celebrated trip to Alaska in 1888-1889, as noted in the book "A Victorian Earl in the Arctic," by Krech. Only months after I started making masks, I got a surprise call from the Smithsonian gift Shops. They were looking for masks to sell in their shops during the touring Yupik Mask Show. I ended up selling them over thirty masks. I guess I can say I sold my first mask to the Smithsonian!
